Eileen Hanson

I’m a chaplain and spiritual care provider working in both hospital and community settings with diverse individuals and groups. I offer spiritual care, guidance in embodiment and contemplative practices for people of any religious/spiritual identity or none. I feel especially called to accompany marginalized people, those that may have experienced exclusion or harm in church contexts, and activists working for justice and collective liberation.

My spiritual formation is in the Catholic Worker tradition of practicing the works of mercy, resisting the works of war, and cultivating the beloved community. This has led me to international human rights solidarity work and involvement in many social change movements. My vocation brings together a passion for social justice and integrated body-mind living.

My contemplative practice is rooted in the Christian contemplative tradition and Benedictine monastic spirituality. I also have training in Zen Buddhism. I’m an oblate of Holy Wisdom Monastery, an ecumenical Benedictine community that weaves prayer, hospitality, justice and care for the earth in a shared way of life.

I strive to cultivate a trauma-sensitive, body-positive, and gender affirming space for all people. I am a certified yoga instructor and have been a practitioner of tai chi and qi gong for more than 20 years. I offer individual and group guidance in embodiment practices to deepen our capacity to hear and respond to our bodies. My goal is always to invite us into a non-judging awareness of our body and sensations, with a sense of curiosity and wonder.

I am a white settler, living on the traditional lands of the Oceti Sakowin (Dakota), Meswaki, Anishinaabe, and Ho-Chunk peoples. My life is nourished by the river and bluffs of the Driftless region and I offer deep gratitude and respect to the many peoples that have lived with and cared for this land long before me. I stand in solidarity with water protectors and all those who honor our relationship with the earth.

I look forward to meeting you and hearing how the sacred is moving in your life.
